The minimum time to give the Ha Giang Loop Motorbike Tour 3D2N any justice is three days. We call it, half-jokingly, the “hurry, hurry” tour — three long days of riding through the mountains of northern Vietnam. It allows travelers to complete the full Ha Giang Loop, yet leaves little time for detours or extended stops along the way.

This tour still includes the major highlights: Quan Ba Heaven’s Gate, the Highland of Stone, Dong Van, the Ma Pi Leng Pass, and the quiet backroads deep inside the Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark. Though short, it offers a real taste of the northern frontier — the limestone peaks, the ethnic villages, and the open roads that define Ha Giang.
Riders can choose to self-drive or ride pillion behind a local guide. For those self-driving, we recommend solid motorcycling experience, as the terrain can be challenging but deeply rewarding. Accommodation is typically one night in an ethnic minority homestay and one in a simple hotel, though both nights can be arranged at homestays for a more immersive stay.
There is no time for lazy mornings; we set out early each day. Still, every kilometer offers something worth remembering — the scent of mountain air, the laughter from village kids, the silence between the curves of the road.
The Ha Giang Loop Motorbike Tour 3D2N can be done clockwise or counterclockwise, depending on weather, market days, and the riders’ comfort level. To experience the Dong Van Sunday Market, the tour should ideally begin on a Friday morning.
This 3-day, 2-night journey offers enough time to complete the full loop – three days of mountain roads, changing skies, and the quiet rhythm of northern Vietnam.
DAY 1: Ha Giang – Quan Ba – Du Gia, approx.
120 km drive
After breakfast, we will go out on the Road of Happiness and start driving north out of Ha Giang City. We will climb up the Quan Ba mountain pass, enter the Dong Van Geopark, reach the Heaven’s Gate, and pass the Fairy Hills. In or around the small town of Tam Son, we will find our lunch. After that, we will venture deep into Ha Giang mountains and reach the picturesque village of Du Gia. Here, we will stay with an ethnic minority family at their homestay. We will have dinner and breakfast with the family. (The day includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner.)

DAY 2: Du Gia – Meo Vac – (Ma Pi Leng) – Dong Van – Lung Cu Dong Van approx. 110 to 150 km drive

We say thanks to the family of the homestay and head north, passing some of the most magnificent mountain passes you will ever have seen, pass the town of Meo Vac (where we will have lunch), and move slowly up the majestic Ma Pi Leng mountain pass before reaching Dong Van, the most northern town in Vietnam. If one is up to it, we can climb up to the ruins of the French fort and get a stunning view of the town and its surroundings. Exploring the Old Quarter of Dong Van might be something others may enjoy after a long day on the bike. Stay in a hotel or homestay as agreed for the tour. Maybe a Hot Pot for dinner! (Day includes Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
DAY 3: Dong Van – Sa Phin – Yen Minh – Tam Son – Ha Giang City, approx 150 km drive
After breakfast, we start our journey south. Soon we will reach Sa Phin, where we will find the one-hundred-year-old palace of Vuong Chinh Duc – the King of the H’mong people. We go down the Highland of Stone and reach Yen Minh, where we have lunch and then climb a mountain pass. The road takes us up to Tam Son, over the Quan Ba mountain pass, and back to Ha Giang. (Day Includes Breakfast, Lunch)
